Frequently Asked Questions
Orthopedics at Dr. Narang’s Hospital, Jaipur
What orthopedic conditions do you treat?
We manage fractures and trauma, sports injuries (ligament/meniscus tears), spine disorders, arthritis and degenerative joint disease, infections, bone tumors, and pediatric (congenital) orthopedic issues.
Do all fractures need surgery?
No. Many fractures heal well with conservative care such as closed reduction, casting/splinting, bracing, and physiotherapy. Surgery is considered for displaced, unstable, open, or joint-involving fractures where alignment and function would otherwise be compromised.
What types of casts do you provide?
We apply plaster casts and modern synthetic casts based on injury type, swelling, patient comfort, and doctor’s recommendation. Casts are custom-fitted and reviewed regularly to ensure proper healing.
How should a cast be cared for at home?
1. Keep the cast dry and clean
2. Do not insert objects to scratch inside the cast
3. Elevate the limb and apply cold packs (over a towel) for swelling in the first 48–72 hours
4. Move fingers/toes to maintain circulation
5. Report tightness, severe pain, numbness, bad odor, cracks, or soft spots

How long does a fracture take to heal?
Healing varies by bone and age but commonly ranges from 4–8 weeks. Children often heal faster. Return to full activity depends on bone union, pain control, and muscle recovery guided by the doctor and physiotherapist.
What are the signs a cast is too tight or there’s a problem?
Increasing pain or swelling, numbness/tingling, bluish or pale fingers/toes, inability to move digits, severe pressure points, foul smell, or fever. Contact the hospital immediately if any of these occur.
How are sports injuries treated?
Initial care focuses on rest, ice, compression, elevation, and pain control. Depending on injury severity, treatment may include bracing, physiotherapy, image-guided injections, or surgery (e.g., ligament reconstruction), followed by structured rehab.
Do you offer physiotherapy after orthopedic procedures?
Yes. Post-injury and post-operative rehabilitation are integral to recovery. Individualized physiotherapy plans help restore motion, strength, balance, and safe return to activity.
