Frequently Asked Questions

Kidney stones form when minerals and salts in concentrated urine crystallize and clump together. Factors like dehydration, diet, obesity, certain medical conditions, and some medications may increase risk.

Common symptoms include severe pain in the side or lower back, pain radiating to the groin, painful urination, blood in urine, nausea, and frequent urge to urinate.

Diagnosis typically involves physical examination, urine tests, blood tests, ultrasound, and CT scans to locate and assess stones.

URS is a minimally invasive procedure where a thin, flexible scope is inserted through the urethra and bladder into the ureter or kidney to diagnose and treat stones or other abnormalities.

URS is performed under anesthesia, so patients do not feel pain during the procedure. Mild discomfort may occur afterward but is manageable with medication.

Most patients can resume normal activities within a few days. Mild urinary discomfort or blood in urine may persist briefly.

PCNL is indicated for large or complex kidney stones that cannot be effectively treated with other methods like URS or shock wave lithotripsy.

A small incision is made in the back to insert instruments directly into the kidney to break and remove stones.

Hospital stay is usually a few days. Complete recovery may take several weeks, during which patients are advised to avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activity.
